How umbilical cord blood stem cells regenerate skin

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) from umbilical cord blood are regarded as the "youngest" stem cell source that can be safely collected after birth. Unlike stem cells from adult adipose tissue or bone marrow (which have already been affected by ageing), umbilical cord blood stem cells retain a sustained proliferative capacity and secrete large amounts of growth factors.

Three main mechanisms on the skin

Research has identified three main mechanisms when umbilical cord blood stem cell conditioned media is applied to skin: (1) Skin cell proliferation - stimulating fibroblasts and keratinocytes to divide faster than with stem cells from adipose tissue or bone marrow; (2) Structural protein synthesis - promoting the production of Collagen I/III/IV, Fibronectin and Elastin, observable within 24 hours in laboratory testing; (3) Inflammation suppression - reducing secretion of the inflammatory cytokines TARC, IL-1β, IL-6 and TNF-α via the PGE2 pathway.

What makes the difference?

USC1994® is the trade name of a standardised umbilical cord blood stem cell conditioned media containing 1,470+ identified proteins and growth factors. It is the result of more than 30 years of research and 290+ SCI papers. The "290+" figure reflects the total scientific output of the research group in the stem cell field in general, not solely on USC1994®.
